Art Tile, in the Rockridge section of Oakland, understands that remodeling projects can be stressful with many decisions points that can feel overwhelming at times. Art Tile’s mission is to offer customers their high-level of expertise and experience in the tile and countertop trade to make the entire process of planning, selection and purchase enjoyable and inspiring.
The staff at Art Tile and its sister store, Stillwater Stone & Tile, have extensive experience in design, procurement, floor and wall tile setting, waterproofing, countertop installation and importantly, stone cutting, quarrying, and distribution. “We put all of our experience to use when working with clients and answer all of their questions so they can make informed and stress-free decisions,” says owner Patrick Feely.
“When I took over Art Tile in 2014, I quickly realized that the East Bay deserved to have a world-class tile store, so I created a team with vast experience and built the new showroom to highlight our curated choice of product,” says Feely. Patrick and his teams specialize in both tile and stone. Through Art Tile they offer a diverse range of natural stone, ceramic and porcelain tile, as well as handmade and made-to-order unique tile. Their knowledgeable staff selects the merchandise based on their customers’ needs, with a sharp eye for trend and innovation. Furthermore, they have deep experience in finding tile for very specific, sometimes historical, applications such as Craftsman and Batchelder. The team enjoys the challenge of bringing to life the exact look their customers are trying to create in their home.
As Art Tile worked with its clients on their unique homes, they heard that people loved the service and knowledge received there. However, their clients told them they were not finding the same knowledge, support, and variety when shopping for countertops. “With an eleventh generation family background in natural stone including granite, marble, limestone, and quartz, I decided to open Stillwater Tile & Stone next to Costco in Richmond as a natural extension of Art Tile and to answer this need,” shares Patrick Feely. “It provides customers with an opportunity to hand select large slab stone for their kitchen, bath, or other home projects.”
“I decided to name our stone business Stillwater Tile & Stone because of a quote from the famous Irish poet, W.B. Yeats, who was buried in Sligo, close to my hometown of Boyle in Ireland.”
“We can make our minds so like still water that beings gather about us that they may see, it may be, their own images, and so live for a moment with a clearer, perhaps even with a fiercer life because of our quiet.” – W.B. Yates
The new Stillwater Tile & Stone enterprise occupies a spacious warehouse in Richmond offering large natural stone, engineered quartz, and porcelain slabs. Owner Patrick Feely says, “I began as a young lad helping my Dad carve and install Irish Limestone headstones throughout the West of Ireland. As I grew up, I became more and more passionate about not just the stone itself, but also the business. I continued to work in the industry, first installing diamond-wire cutting tools in quarries throughout the world, then leading one of the largest stone conglomerates in Europe. Through my family in Ireland as well as my years in the industry, I have established many contacts and partnerships, which allow Art Tile and Stillwater to have direct relationships with quarries in Europe, Asia and the U.S. By going straight to the quarries we are able to choose the most beautiful slabs.”
“Stillwater Tile & Stone was born out of our clients’ needs and we are very excited that with both businesses, Art Tile and Stillwater, we can finally become a one-stop solution for all your tile and natural stone needs.” Patrick Feely lives in Rockridge with his wife and children. He loves the Claremont neighborhood and enjoys working with clients there on their home projects large and small. “I encourage residents to stop on by or call us when they first start thinking about a project! We’re here to help and just a short hop down Broadway.”
